Byron: The poetry of politics and the politics of poetry

Bringing together Byron and Romantic scholars from around the world in the heart of London, where two centuries ago the poetТs Сyears of fameТ were just beginning, this conference highlights a theme central to ByronТs work, life, and later reputation, that has never been fully addressed before. Through scholarly papers, readings, debate, a performance of ByronТs drama, visits to the Parthenon Marbles, Harrow School and the House of Lords, and a new exhibition of rare and unpublished items, the conference promises to seek out the sources and nature of that СfameТ, and to connect the life, the work and the political implications of both in exciting new ways.

Please submit titles and abstracts for this yearТs International Byron Conference before the deadline of 28 February.

Conference highlights include:
Х a special exhibition: СByron and politicsТ, manuscripts, printed books and memorabilia from the National Library of Scotland (John Murray Archive) and the Library of KingТs College London
Х СByron, Elgin and the MarblesТ: readings and reception at the British Museum
Х Byron, The Two Foscari: a dramatised reading, with excerpts from VerdiТs opera, I Due Foscari, at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama
